ABOUT JOSEPH HIMSELF
Creator of the method Joseph Pilates suffered from several childhood diseases which left him weak and underdeveloped. With his determination and will power, he overcame his frailties by practising a physical fitness regime. Through the transformation of his own body and influences of new ideas, he developed his training philosophy around the time of the First World War before opening up his studio in New York in the 1920s. He was renowned for working with both ballet dancers and boxing champions. His method included building strength with long lean muscles, balancing strength and flexibility and achieving the perfect harmony between mind and body.
THE PILATES METHOD
Pilates is a body conditioning method that works uniquely to create strength from within, rebalancing the body and bringing it back to its optimal alignment. A complete mind /body connection, Pilates offers simultaneous mental and physical training, isolates the muscles to improve body awareness and release tension. The approach is holistic and emphasises the quality of movement over quantity.
WHAT DO WE OFFER OUR CLIENT?
New clients are required to do an initial assessment which is approximately 75 minutes long, in which we evaluate your posture, muscle imbalances and teach the basic techniques of the Pilates Exercise Regime ie Breathing, Concentration, Alignment, Co-ordination, Centering, Stamina. Each client has the option of joining a group mat class (with a maximum of 6 -7 people) or specialised one-on-one Private training session which include the use of Highly specialised Pilates machinery ie Reformer / Wundachair and Spinal Corrector.) We encourage our client to take a couple of private sessions before entering a class so he/she may feel confident with his/her body within the framework. We also work in conjunction with Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and other medical professionals and encourage an atmosphere of light and delight.
